Hello from Maine! We had an uneventful drive across Vermont, NH and Maine on US 2. The road took us by the northern slopes of Mt Washington (we hope to drive up it next week when we're camped in New Hampshire), through gorgeous valleys and beside waterfalls. And now we've landed in the prettiest spot on Frenchman's Bay, looking out on Acadia National Park.
Kelsey and Kendall were traumatized at dinner...Stan and I couldn't live with our long-held anticipation for even one more night, and indulged in fresh, whole lobster. It was cooked at the lobster market by the owner, Pete, who is closing up his business next week and going on a three-year tour throughout Europe, playing bass guitar. We understand from others that he's a famous musician; we didn't admit that we hadn't heard of him! We'll go back tomorrow and get one of his cd's. Anyway, the kids were horrified as we cracked, tugged, peeled and smashed our way through two lobsters. Hopefully their aversion to seafood will last the trip; we don't want to have to share!
The only drawback to this place is the Internet access--it costs a small fortune. We'd like to avoid that expense (so we can have more lobster!); I can do the text without my Internet-dependent computer, but we'll have to jump through some hoops to add photos...find some free wifi. We'll figure out the process tomorrow. And we'll be on the lookout for Stephen King and Jessica Fletcher--yes, I'm an admitted fan of "Murder, She Wrote"!
