Day 31: Horsin' around

Not much to report today...a brief visit to the American Saddlebred Museum (silly photos below) and a good chunk of time at the pool. We'll leave Kentucky tomorrow, but just barely! We'll spend the next 5 nights in a campground in Lebanon, a little north of Cincinnati and about 20 minutes north of the Kentucky state line. In honor of Lexington's status as horse capital of the United States, we'll share a few fun facts about horses that we picked up today:
1. Horses have the largest eye of any land animal--even bigger than an elephant's.
2. The intestines of a horse are just over 89 feet long. By contrast, a human's are about 20 feet.
3. A horse can drink up to 10 gallons of water a day.
4. A horse in pasture can spend about 13 hours a day eating grass. (And because of that fact...)
5. A horse can poop up to 14 times a day.
And a bit about why the Lexington region is so great for horses...scientists have determined that the limestone composition in this area makes for more nutrient-rich bluegrass. Better grass=better horses.
I know we'll sleep better knowing these nuggets of information; we hope you will too!
